Clerk secures $30M funding and strikes partnership deal with Stripe

Clerk, a startup offering a collection of embeddable UIs, APIs, and administrative dashboards, has successfully raised $30M in a Series B funding round. The round was led by CRV, with firms such as Stripe, Andreessen Horowitz, and Madrona also participating.

  • About the Founders: Clerk was established by brothers Colin and Braden Sidoti in 2019. Both hold reputable engineering credentials; Colin is an MIT graduate, while Braden, an alumnus of Washington University in St. Louis, boasts previous experience at Uber and Inspirato.

  • Clerk's Innovative Solutions: Primarily a self-serve platform, Clerk offers a variety of developer tools for authentication. These drop-in components, coded in React, aim to detect malicious activity, such as bots, while handling user data on behalf of customers.

  • Future Plans: Following phenomenal growth in 2023, Clerk plans to expand its services beyond authentication to include authorization - determining user permissions beyond basic identification.

  • Stripe Partnership: To facilitate this expansion, they will integrate Stripe Billing, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership between the two firms.

Clerk, boasting around 1,300 paying customers and managing 16 million users for these customers, is expecting to increase its workforce from 55 to 80 by the end of this year.
