Delivery Hero explores partial sale of FoodPanda operations

Delivery Hero, the Berlin-based food delivery company, is reportedly considering a significant move - selling part of its Asian operations, the popular Foodpanda brand.

Here are the key takeaways:

  • The potential buyer might be Singapore’s Grab, renowned for its ride-sharing and food delivery services, who could shell out around one billion euros ($1.07B) for this deal. Grab is yet to comment.

  • The operations up for grabs is the FoodPanda brand in Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand.

  • Delivery Hero's CEO, Niklas Ostberg, hinted at Asia as a promising area for further investment just last month.

  • While striving for growth and profitability, Delivery Hero managed to turn a profit for the first half of this year, a significant improvement from a loss of 323 million euros the previous year.

  • Grab isn't in financial trouble either. The company recorded a revenue of $567M in their last quarter, with a break-even point approaching. Most of their income comes from their food delivery service, but their ride-sharing business is also growing steadily.
