JSW Energy raises Rs 5,000 crore in historic QIP, attracts global investor interest

JSW Energy Limited raised Rs 5,000 crore through a qualified institutions placement (QIP) to boost its growth plans. The institutional investors included the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).

  • Company Background: JSW Energy Limited, part of the $23-billion JSW Group, is a leading private sector power producer in India.

  • Fund Utilization: The company aims to use the proceeds to strengthen its capital structure and accelerate its growth plans.

  • Investor Interest: The issue was oversubscribed, with more than 3.2 times subscription. Major global asset managers like GQG, Blackrock, Nomura, Wellington, UBS, and ADIA participated in the QIP.

  • Milestones: This is JSW Energy's first equity raise since its listing in 2010. It is the largest primary equity raise in the Indian power sector in the last decade and one of the top three in history.
