Mastodon, the open-source, decentralized social network, is gaining momentum. A recent network connectivity issue revealed surprising growth statistics for Mastodon.

Founder Eugen Rochko announced that Mastodon's active monthly user count was underestimated by 407,814.

• Reality Check: Mastodon's registered user count has increased by a staggering 2.34 million, spread across an additional 727 servers.

• Data Correction: The error that impacted Mastodon’s statistics page from October 2 to October 8 has been rectified, revealing that Mastodon now boasts 1.8 million active users monthly, a 5% increase, and over 10,000 servers, a 12% growth.

• Identity Crisis: X, in the meantime, seems to be in a constant state of identity crisis. The latest controversial decision from X's owner, Elon Musk, to remove headlines from link previews for aesthetic reasons, and the suggestion to charge users a small fee to access X, has stirred up quite a bit of controversy.
